HOLY CUPCAKE! How did this happen folks? We have come to the end of 365 cupcakes! We thank you so much for all your support, we could have never done it without our collectors near and far!

There has been a lot of anticipation over this final cupcake, and we've decided we simply have to let the best (or fastest) collector win. The first person to send me an email to kallencole@aol.com will be the proud owner of the final cupcake. But as a consolation prize to those who aren't first, Scott is willing to do a repeat version of this upside down cupcake for anyone who may want one.

The screwdriver cupcake is dotted with bits of candied orange and topped with a cocktail inspired garnish of an orange wrapped maraschino cherry. The background is a dusky mauve to show off the pale sunset colors of the cupcake.

Speaking of sunsets, the daily cupcake is coming to a close, with tomorrow being the final cupcake. A new series is forming, but Scott wants a little R&R to regroup before the launch. We will announce here in a few weeks.

A cool crisp blue surrounds this elegant white cupcake. The topping is thin crinkled layers of fondant, probably a miraculous achievement in the world of baking! The cool blues and white combined with that layer of minty green somehow remind me of toothpaste, an odd connection for sure. But the idea of a collection of these cupcakes in a dentist's office always makes me grin!

Now as we move towards the final 5 cupcakes we have some announcements to make. We are heading off to a show in Boca Raton, FL this weekend, so this is the last cupcake we will post this week. We will start again on Tuesday with #361 and post one each day with the last one going up on Saturday at as close to noon(EST) as I can muster. We've had a few requests to pre-purchase the last cupcake, but we are going to have to refrain from any favoritism and rely on the first come first serve method once I post. Scott brought this little number down the studio stairs telling me all about it, "It's an ice cream cupcake, you cut off the top and put a scoop of ice cream inside!" Scott is an ice cream junkie, so I'm sure he was devouring this in his imagination! A little hot fudge on top, and you have pure heaven. A little chocolate mocha bliss for our cupcake fans! At one time or another in art school you can count on having to produce a "monochromatic painting" as an exercise. Which is essentially what this is, one color, in this case brown, with white added to make tints, and black, to make shades. The frosting does seem to have a touch of pink, and the cup, a bit of yellow...but it is close! Now I want some chocolate covered coffee beans!

The classic combination of chocolate and almond, surrounded by salmon pink. (I know, any mention of fish in connection with chocolate sorta kills the joy! But "salmon" really is the best way to describe this fresh pinky-peach color!) I love how the broken lines of purple dance around the cup and cause a little "reticulation." That's the vibrating buzzing kind of feeling you get in your eyes when you stare at tight stripes, or the edges of complementary colors. Enjoy!

I think one of the best things about a cupcake is that the icing to cake ratio is much higher than regular cake! The use of pink yellow and blue makes this a primary triad, as the colors are all tints of the three primary colors. Using a triad, being three colors that are equal distance from each other on the color wheel gives this piece a good sense of balance. It works with purple, orange, and green too, try it!

A delicious study in complementary colors! Yellow and violet sit across from each other on the color wheel, therefore they are opposites, or complementary. Yellow is a good choice to neutralise violet, and violet will neutralise yellow. Good to know if you are trying to mix anything between a warm gold to a plum. Begin with a bright stop sign red, add a bit of purple, and a touch of black. The trick to mixing colors well is to mix them often, and of course keep track of what works and what doesn't. What a crazy beautiful cupcake! Folks often assume I spend most of my waking hours in the kitchen baking all these wonderful cupcakes for Scott to paint. I hate to break it to you, but I haven't baked a single one! Many of them are purchased at our favorite cupcake haunts, and some of them simply come out of Scott's imagination. Like this one! I have no idea what kind of icing could be so bright and glossy, yet not run off the cupcake. But Scott doesn't have to worry about what's possible in the real world! Have a great day!

I love the combination of pale pistachio green and chocolate brown, both in flavor, and the visual sense. Light bounces off the shiny streams of chocolate, I can't decide if it's still liquid, or a crisp layer of cold chocolate. But I am sure the cake has a bit of pistachio crunch. A line of chocolate themed cupcakes would bring a little joy to a living room, look around, where would they fit?

There is something about the combination of steel blue grey and deep chocolate brown that I just love. Both are quite neutral, so neither takes center stage, and they just get along so nicely! Cupcake #290, do you know what that means? Only 75 more cupcakes to go! But, back to the present, today's chocolate raspberry truffle cupcake is sitting pretty on a warm brick red background. Although they look like very different colors, the raspberry red, and the background sit very close to each other on the color wheel. One leans closer to the cool side of red, and the other a warm red leaning to the orange side. Did you know there was a such a thing as a cool red? Enjoy!

Mmmm, chocolate and strawberry is about as good as it gets! And chocolate brown is a very popular neutral color. It has been the mainstay, as the accent color seen with it has changed from robin egg blue, through lime green, and now pink. I'm sure there is a new hot color to go with brown on the horizon, but I haven't picked up on it yet! Now, you must know someone very special with a birthday coming up!

I think the layered cupcake is very clever, just slice a bit off the top, and fill. This one is filled with a ice cream scoop of fluffy white frosting. A drizzle of chocolate glaze and a cherry on top, who could resist!? The background, if you were sorting through the biggest box of crayons, would be called chartreuse. A bright yellow green, neutralized with just a touch of red.

Scott came down the studio stairs with this cupcake and said..."Behold, a cabbage cupcake!" I'm not sure about the marketability of a cabbage cupcake. But if you imagine the beautiful variegated green leaves tasted like mint, or pistachio, we may have a winner. I love the tall ruffly leaf shapes, a very sophisticated cupcake, enjoy!

Things are looking just beachy! Scott wanted to paint a cupcake representing great times at the beach. We've been to a few Florida beaches this year as well as our most recent journey to Cape Cod. Toes in the sand is always a good place to be. When I asked him if this cupcake would be edible, he said "probably not!" But I'm sure the many talented cake decorators out there could somehow pull this off in sugar and all things wonderful! So here's to the beach, and many wonderful sunsets!

What can I say about a banana cupcake? Bananas are the comedians of fruit, there's the never ending slip on a banana peel, and who hasn't shot someone with a banana "gun?" But this simple banana cupcake, piled with the fruit and cream seems to hardly entice a giggle. Even though it's surrounded by a beautiful banana yellow! So here's a treat for the banana lovers, or even the lovers of bright yellow, have a great day!

Deep, dark, sinfully delicious. This is definitely a cupcake for grownups! It starts out innocently enough with the chocolate cake, but the incredibly thick deep chocolate icing has a surprise. A touch of cayenne pepper, not enough to taste "pepper" just enough to feel a bit of after burn. Some of the flavor may be attributed to the red sugar crystals that it was rolled in, I thought I detected a hint of cinnamon. But the overall flavor was so mesmerising it's really hard to say for sure! Surrounded by a deep somewhat neutralised grape color...somewhere between fine wine, and the final colors of a sunset. A beauty!

My favorite part of this painting is how the light and shadows play in the folds of the piped icing, delicious!

As autumn approaches even the deepest south, it is time to roll out the warm colors of fall. A criss cross drizzle of caramel on the thick cream cheese icing is a beautiful, yet simple decoration. The cinnamon, or warm brick red background surrounds the foreground, pushing the yellows a bit, making them glow. Caramel apples by the fire anyone?

Soft, neutral, understated color is the story of this cupcake. Whites, cream, a little warm beige...but look a little closer. Do you see the subtle speckles of almost violet, or the pale wash of yellow, and the luminous red reflecting in the shadow side of the marshmallow? The more you look, the more you see. The background was kept especially neutral, the color of bleached seashells, just to allow the cupcake to shine. But don't let the color fool you, this little number came from the Atlanta Cupcake Factory, and was pure mouthwatering bliss. The cake itself is pumpkin, the icing had a touch of caramel I think, and the top? A toasted mini marshmallow. A wonderful taste of autumn, enjoy!

Chocolate, and a deep crushed blackberry purple, two of my favorite things! Little "poofs" of thick chocolate icing pile on top of each other to build this impressive cupcake. The light source comes from the back, pushing the shadow forward. Perfectly yummy! We went out shopping for fresh models yesterday, so the fridge is full of good things to come, stay tuned!

Yay! We're back, sorry for leaving you cupcake-less for so long!

#278 is a snow white cupcake scattered in chocolate chunks. Topped with not one but two green maraschino cherries, to match the green paper cup. I'd like to know what was going on in the head of whoever decided bleaching the color out of cherries and dying them green was a cool thing to do! The warm sunset background surrounds the cupcake, making the chocolate seem a little warmer, and the green just a little more outrageous!

Cupcake #277 is topped with a thick swirl of cream cheese icing and a flash of chocolate drizzle. The cake itself is chocolate, sitting in a simple paper cup. The background is deep brick red, changing to a burgundy in the shadow. Warm autumn colors, yum!

The daily cupcake is going to have to take a bit of a break, as we are going on a quick art tour. We're heading to New York City this week, as Kathrine will be in the Gracie Square Art Show on the upper east side of Manhattan on October 2nd and 3rd. Then up to Cape Cod, where Scott will be doing a gallery talk about his Mediterranean Boat Series at the Calhoon Museum of American Art in Cotuit on Tuesday Oct 5th. If you are in the area his show is up until October 30th. Then we may or may not be continuing our stay in Greenwich, Connecticut. Kathrine is on the waiting list for the Bruce Museum show the following weekend, we are just waiting for a phone call to let us know if she's in. So long story short, we don't really know when we'll be back, so keep checking in. We'll post along the way to keep you all in the loop! A delightful little cupcake, sliced and layered with cream and topped with a fresh strawberry. Since the strawberry itself is a soft neutral variation of red, the background is a soft neutral variation of the complementary color of red, being green. A sweet blueberry cupcake. The frosting on this cupcake is right at the brink of purple. So close to pink, but the slightest bit of blue in it brings it back to the purple or violet end of the spectrum. Green, blue and purple all sit next to each other on the color wheel, but in this case the green is so close to yellow, and the purple so close to pink, that they hardly seem to be related at all. But together, they sing. This one won't match your sofa, but be the brave collector, if it makes you smile!
